Books That Have Been a Treat to Read (Mostly)
Some very unprofessional (spoiler-free!) book opinions I have…

I am a big Taylor Jenkins Reid fan, and I have been wanting to get my hands on this book for a while now. I don’t want to be negative with my first book review, and I will probably post another one to outweigh the subpar rating I am about to give this one. I really like TJR because her books are pretty easy to digest, but also don’t make your brain melt. It’s awesome. I reaaallly liked Daisy Jones & The Six (the mini series was also lovely) and of course I have good things to say about The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo. While Malibu Rising did give off similar vibes as Daisy Jones, the characters were horrifically unlikable. I do appreciate some of the dynamics they had, and almost everyone had some type of redeeming quality, but it isn’t enough to make me give this book a better rating. The ending was strange, and I don’t fully understand the series of events at the party. I feel like we really devolved from the beginning of the book, which was focused on the family dynamic. Was this book entertaining? Yeah, I read it in like three days, but that doesn’t mean it blew me out of the water. I am really interested in reading Carrie Soto is Back and I found it charming that the characters from other TJR books made appearances. Fun!

Generally not a dystopian/sci-fi book girl. But this was insane. It’s one of those that I kinda feel like everyone should read at some point. I totally understand where the hate of this book comes from. I do think it is a bit hit or miss. But it hit really hard for me, and it was just overall an enjoyable read, even though it left me the most depressed.
